About the Artist
A successful musician and jewellery designer, an accident meant Charmaine had to focus on the less physically active side of her long art career for a while.
She has since become an accomplished freelance webdesigner and web developer, writer, and popular animal and fantasy artist.
"I won my first art competition, for a record sleeve design, at age 11", she recalls. "Having later won awards for some of my other art too, it seemed the natural choice to now concentrate on my drawings and paintings."
Charmaine works with mixed media, though favourites remain charcoal and pastels.
"I use the computer to enhance the printing quality of those designs which are used on clothing and ceramics, or are incorporated into websites", she adds.
"But it depends on the subject. Some things I like to look raw. Some I like to be wholly computer generated. All of it is made with a piece of my soul."
Her inspiration is found in the realms of myth, magic and fantasy, ancient beliefs and cultures, and ordinary everyday life.
"I love creating things. I need to create things...things of beauty, things of madness, expressions of the soul, works which draw power from ancient symbolism..or simply something which might bring a brief moment of humour to the viewer.
"And a visitor passing by liking, and maybe even purchasing, one of my creations is both a pleasure, and an immense honor."
